The Rotary Club of Sioux Lookout presented the Jack McKenzie Memorial Award to the the Nordic Nomads Ski Club. For the excellent work they do in creating and keeping the Xcountry ski trails in our community. In particular the award recognizes the work of Ron Laverty and John Davies over the last 5 decades.

The Nordic Nomads cross country ski club is a volunteer organization that maintains over 25 km of cross country ski trails at Cedar Bay and surrounding area. The trails can be accessed from the Cedar Bay parking area or the Sioux Lookout Golf Club. There are challenging and relaxing trails as well as a 5 km racing loop.

Soon Sioux Lookout was told that extended care here was indeed possible. The greater part of the funding would come from the Ontario government, but one-sixth had to be raised by the town. That meant a fundraising goal of $620,000 – an awesome figure in a town of some 3000 population with no major industry.
